Peter,

As ERC Office, we know what you meant for the ERC and the development and implementation of courses.
Which country in Europe and beyond was not visited by you in order to start provider and instructor courses with a high standard?

We also appreciated your strong views on what the ERC is and should be for resuscitation in Europe.

We will miss you !

Bart Vissers

I first had the pleasure of meeting Peter at an ALS course in Lyon in 1998. From then on, he remained a constant source of encouragement to 2 lonely ALS instructors trying to get courses going in France. He was never too busy to answer our emails, give us moral support at ERC symposiums and help us network with other ALS instructors. For us, he will always remain our number one mentor.
Mrs Eileen EMERSON | 31 July 2008 - 22:31
I had the opportunity to meet Peter Baskett during the ERC congress in Budapest.I had never seen a man teaching, discussing ,proposing ,asking and the whole amphitheatre, totally full -even on stairs- was paricipating.I met him again during the first instructor course in Greece. I was really lucky to meet him.He was the best teacher I have ever had.I think he was a man enjoying every moment of his important task.Condolences to his family and friends.
Thank you ,Teacher
Rest in peace

But I have a lot of respect from what I knew & heard about him
He did a lot for the world
Dr Ahmed ABDULSABOOR | 15 July 2008 - 23:02
I first met Peter in 1980 in Runnymeade England and it began a lifetime friendship. He was a fellow anesthetist across two oceans and it was such fun to talk about anesthesia as well as resuscitation when we got together. It was my greatest privelege to see him inducted as a "Giant" of Resuscitation by ILCOR and the AHA and then an even greater one to introduce him, pay tribute to his lifetime of acheivements and present him with the Hans Dahll award in 2006. He is a fallen hero and is irreplacable. The ERC and the field of Resusciation will sorely miss him.
Dr William Montgomery | 15 July 2008 - 08:51
Prof Helen ASKITOPOULOU | 14 July 2008 - 21:21
I had the honour to meet your husband and been taught by him. I will never forget the immense wisdom and kindness that he conveyed during this course.
Martin HERMANNS | 14 July 2008 - 15:03
Peter had a great sense of humor while in the UAE teaching many of us , a few of us were emirati ladies dressed in their national black abaya Peter in his gentle way said " Abaya reminds me of henry ford in the early days of cars manufacturing Ford used to tell his customers you can have the car in any color yu like as long as it is black"
Peter will always be remembered
Dr Rabia NOUEIHED-DARWISH | 14 July 2008 - 14:58
I met Dr Peter Basket several years ago at Bristol Royal Infirmary, therefore I could realize that Dr Basket was not only a good anesthesiologist but also a true gentleman. My condolences to his family.

Peter lived to impact and influence people all over the world. Although I never met him personally, I admire him so much. He has left us all a legacy. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Thanks to Fiona for being such an help mate for him and the whole family for being there for him. Amen.
Dr Bisola ONAJIN-OBEMBE | 11 July 2008 - 22:26
I learned more from Peter in a 1-hour editing session for the 2005 BLS guidelines then had been accomplished in a writing course. His contributions to resuscitation science as Editor of Resuscitation will be with us for a very long time. Dr. Bassett was not a only a gifted physician and researcher, but also a wonderful friend to his colleagues. A person you like to be around to learn something new about resuscitation science but also to hear some very funny stories. He will be missed. Fiona, my heart goes out to you and your family for your loss.

A great Inspiration to so many. A belief in me that gave me encouragement and a wonderful taste of life I would otherwise not have experienced. A very big thankyou and sadness at a great loss.
How else would I know how to make a great G&T without the 4 stage approach!
Thoughts are with Fiona and Beatrice at this difficult time.

I have been working closely together with Peter for more than 20 years, as the first chairman of ERC, as a teacher, as a leader with enormous social skills, as a friend, as a mentor, as a partner, as a personality.
The circle of his friends is immense, the circle of the friends of his friends is even more impressive. Having worked with him for so many years was a privilege. We miss Peter for his contagious enthusiasm, for his skills to motivate and educate people.

On behalf of hundreds of egyptian physicians I thank Peter for starting continuous training of resuscitation in Egypt.

On September, 2nd, 2001 Peter started ALS courses in Egypt accompanied by a group of instructors from allover Europe. In his first visit to Egypt he ran three courses back to back to establish a basis for the Egyptian Resuscitation Council.

Peter supported the right persons to continue his efforts.

Peter was the teacher, the mentor and the friend to everybody.

In Egypt, thousands of egyptian doctors will miss Peter.

Condolences to his family and friends.

One cannot begin to write about Col Peter's life. It was never ordinary or lacking in challenge.

My first meeting with him was when he commissioned, I was Chief Clerk at 219 General Hospital in Keynsham.

Little did I know that I would work with him in later civilian life at Frenchay, Bristol Powerboats and subsequently come under his command when I rejoined the TA.

All in 219 will remember him as a CO passionate for the survival of 219 which he led into the amalgamation with 211 to create 243. There were not many dry eyes when 219 marched behind him and the band of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars and into the history books.

When it came to medical education he was a driving force behind the 219 Medical Symposia, finding eminent speakers and support from the medical industries to produce days which demonstrated the latest developments to some people which would never have seen them.

Always cheerful, he was a kingpin of mess life and a privelege to host in the WOs and Sgts Mess although inevitavbly it meant a late night. Our mess life was somewhat richer and more sociable in those days.

A sad loss. May he rest in peace.

Condolences to Fiona and the children.
