Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Health, and every year since 2013, the “German Resuscitation Week” (Woche der Wiederbelebung) initiated and organized by the German Anaesthesiologists and the German Resuscitation Council (GRC) takes place in September. During this week, more than 800 events across Germany are initiated aiming at teaching CPR to lay persons and encouraging bystanders to save lives in case of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In 2018, the week of resuscitation will be held again from 17.09.-23.09.2018 (www.einlebenretten.de; www.wiederbelebung.de).
One of the most important topics and activities in Germany is school children education in resuscitation – KIDS SAVE LIVES. Since 2013, lay resuscitation rates in Germany increased from less than 20% to 36% in 2016. The goal of the German Resuscitation Council is to reach a lay resuscitation rate of >50% in 2020 in Germany.”
