ERC Supports the Expansion of Resuscitation Training in Uganda
In mid-December 2025, the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) donated resuscitation training equipment to the Association of Ambulance Professionals Uganda (AAPU), reinforcing its commitment to strengthening life-saving education in low- and middle-income countries.
AAPU is a professional organisation established in 2017 that delivers ERC-aligned resuscitation courses, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS), and Neonatal Life Support (NLS). Since 2023, AAPU has trained more than 400 healthcare professionals across Uganda, responding to a growing national demand for high-quality resuscitation education.
The donated equipment will support training activities in Kampala and Mbarara, including the development of a new training centre at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). This expansion will improve access to resuscitation training in Western Uganda, where opportunities for structured, simulation-based education have been more limited.
By strengthening local training capacity and supporting the sustainable development of instructors, this initiative is expected to increase the number of healthcare professionals trained each year and contribute to improved emergency care and patient outcomes. All training activities are delivered in line with internationally recognised ERC guidelines.
The ERC will follow up with AAPU in 2026 to assess the impact of the donation and explore opportunities for continued collaboration. The Council sincerely thanks its donors and partners for enabling this initiative and for supporting locally led efforts to improve survival after cardiac arrest worldwide.
