ERC Supports CPR Training Initiative in Ghana through Equipment Donation
In April 2026, the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) supported a national CPR training initiative in Ghana through the donation of essential resuscitation training equipment.
The training programme was implemented by Global Life Savers Inc. in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the National Ambulance Service. The initiative is aimed to strengthen first response capacity by equipping police officers with the skills and confidence to respond effectively in cases of a cardiac arrest.
Police officers are frequently among the first to arrive at emergency scenes, often before medical services. Their ability to initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the first critical minutes is essential to improving survival outcomes. Through this programme, several hundred officers were trained using a structured approach that combined theoretical instruction with hands-on, simulation-based learning. A Train-the-Trainer model was also implemented, enabling selected participants to become instructors and deliver further training within their regions.
The role of the ERC in this initiative was to enable these training activities through the provision of appropriate equipment. The donation included adult CPR manikins, which are essential for delivering high-quality, practical training. Access to such equipment allows participants to practise realistic scenarios and develop technical skills.
By supporting the availability of these training tools, the ERC contributes to strengthening local capacity and empowering partners to deliver impactful and sustainable resuscitation education. This approach aligns with the ERC’s broader commitment to improving access to life-saving training in low- and middle-income countries.
This initiative builds on previous ERC-supported programmes, including the 2025 donation initiative in Uganda, and reflects a continued effort to support local partners in strengthening emergency response systems.
The ERC extends its sincere appreciation to Laerdal Medical and Lufthansa Aviation Training for their generous contribution of donating this training equipment. Their support has been instrumental in enabling this initiative and in strengthening first response capacity in Ghana.
