The ERC Brings Lifesaving Skills to the European Parliament, Brussels
June 29, 2026

Last Thursday, June 25, the European Resuscitation Council, together with the Belgian Resuscitation Council, brought lifesaving skills to the heart of Europe at the European Parliament, bringing together policymakers, partners and advocates to promote one simple but powerful message: everyone can learn CPR and help save a life. The MEP Dr András Kulja hosted the event.
The event highlighted the vital role that immediate bystander intervention plays in improving survival after cardiac arrest. Through live demonstrations, participants had the opportunity to develop practical lifesaving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of early recognition, rapid response, and prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people across Europe experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In many cases, survival depends on the actions taken by bystanders in the first few minutes before emergency medical services arrive. Increasing public awareness and access to CPR training remains one of the most effective ways to improve survival rates.
The event provided an important platform for dialogue between the policymakers and the resuscitation community.
The ERC extends its sincere gratitude to all participants, policymakers, partners and supporters who contributed to the success of the event. Their commitment demonstrates the collective determination to build safer, more resilient communities where more citizens are equipped with the confidence and skills to act during a cardiac arrest.
Together, we can create a future where lifesaving knowledge is accessible to everyone—because every minute matters, and every trained citizen has the potential to save a life.
