ERC Supports Resuscitation Training in Tanzania with Third Donation Initiative

The European Resuscitation Council has completed its third donation initiative, this time supporting Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital in Arusha, Tanzania.

The donation consisted mainly of CPR manikins and other resuscitation training materials. These materials will remain at the hospital and support the continued training of medical staff, helping to strengthen local resuscitation capacity in a sustainable way.

The initiative in Arusha was launched thanks to the commitment of the Serbian and Cypriot Resuscitation Councils. Their goal is to support the creation of local faculty at Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital as part of a long-term training programme.

Important first steps have already taken place, including Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support and Generic Instructor Course training. These courses provide a strong foundation for building local expertise and ensuring that resuscitation knowledge can continue to be shared within the hospital and wider healthcare community.

In addition, the Head of the Emergency Department of Tanga Regional Referral  Hospital was invited to participate in the training, together with two colleagues. They also received resuscitation training materials, enabling them to continue training medical staff at their own hospital and helping to further extend the impact of this initiative beyond Arusha.

The programme is also made possible thanks to the support of Health Mission Africa, an NGO that is actively involved at Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital and plays a key role in supporting healthcare initiatives on site.

By ensuring that training materials are available locally and can remain at the hospital, ERC is helping to create a lasting impact. This donation supports not only immediate training needs, but also the long-term development of resuscitation education in the region.

This third donation initiative is another important step in ERC’s mission to improve access to high-quality resuscitation training and strengthen lifesaving skills across Europe and beyond. It builds on previous ERC-supported programmes, including the 2025 donation initiative in Uganda, and the initiative in Ghana, and reflects a continued effort to support local partners in strengthening emergency response systems.

The ERC would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Laerdal Medical and Lufthansa Aviation Training for their generous donation of training equipment. Their support has been crucial in enhancing first response capabilities in Tanzania.
