Generic Instructor Course
The Generic Instructor Course (GIC) prepares future instructors to teach ERC provider courses, focusing on teaching skills, simulation, teamwork and effective feedback.
The Generic Instructor Course (GIC) is a 2-day programme designed for candidates who have completed an ERC provider course (ALS, EPALS, ILS, EPILS, NLS, or ETC) and have been nominated as having Instructor Potential (IP) by the course faculty.
The GIC provides the standardised training needed to teach on ERC provider courses. It focuses on adult learning principles, facilitation, teamwork, and formative assessment. Candidates learn to run skill stations, lead cardiac arrest simulation sessions, and provide effective feedback to improve learners’ performance.
The course includes workshops, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, all delivered under ERC standards to ensure quality and uniformity across Europe and beyond.
Successful participants receive the ERC Instructor Candidate Certificate and are recognised as Instructor Candidates. They achieve full Instructor status after teaching on two ERC provider courses under supervision.
Candidates must hold a valid ERC Instructor Potential certificate and attend the GIC within 3 years of this recommendation.
