ERC Awards Research Grants to Advance Resuscitation Science Across Europe
The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) is pleased to announce the projects selected for funding under its latest research grant call. Following a rigorous evaluation process, these projects were chosen for their scientific excellence, innovation, and potential to improve resuscitation care and outcomes across Europe.
Together, the funded studies address critical challenges across the entire chain of survival—from early recognition and emergency response to post-cardiac arrest care and patient-centred decision-making—while also strengthening collaboration between researchers and National Resuscitation Councils.
Young Investigator Grants
Through the Young Investigator Grant programme, the ERC supports early-career researchers whose work contributes to the future of resuscitation science. The following projects have been selected for funding:
EMS Response to Maternal Collapse and Cardiac Arrest: A Qualitative Study (submitted by Adam Boulton)
Sphingosine-1 Phosphate Signalling in Post-Cardiac Arrest Brain Injury (submitted by Aurora Magliocca)
EMLS: European Maternal Life Support – Recognition and Initial Management of Maternal Critical Illness (submitted by Katarzyna Maciejewska)
From Smartwatch to Survival: Optimising Automated Cardiac Arrest Alerts and Identifying Victim Reachability Barriers (submitted by Roos Edgar)
ERC–NRC Collaboration Grants
The ERC–National Resuscitation Council (NRC) Collaboration Grants support cross-border cooperation and the translation of research into clinical practice. The following collaborative projects have been selected:
Developing New Universal and International Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Signage(submitted by Nino Fijacko)
The Quality of In-Hospital Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Post-Cardiac Arrest Therapy in the Central-Eastern European Region (CEREBRA Study) (submitted by Petra Szvath)
Hot Ventilation Debrief (submitted by Simon Orlob)
ReSPECT From Concept to Continent: A Multicentre Gap Analysis of Person-Centred Resuscitation Care and Treatment Planning (submitted by Therese Djarv)
The ERC congratulates all successful applicants and thanks all researchers and National Resuscitation Councils who submitted proposals. The high number and quality of applications highlight the strength of resuscitation research in Europe. The ERC looks forward to following the progress of these projects and sharing their impact with the wider resuscitation community.
